Take a look at a type of natural stone called dolomite or quartzite, specifically Super White color. I have just used it for a kitchen and am getting ready to use it again for my own kitchen. It is very beautiful in white/grey coloring and seems to fairly resistant to stain for a natural stone. My client got a small sample and did her own experiments on it with coffee, wine etc and was satisfied. You still have to seal it and treat it as a natural stone, but it is much more stain resistant than marble. We purchased it at a national stone company called MS International in Seattle. See photo.
