I like your coffee table & it seems to fit the space nicely....maybe just paint the bottom an antique bronze for a little something different

Now that I think about it - you'd get a bigger change with a new rug and keep the table.

I agree with kcar66. Painting the base of the coffee table a darker shade of bronzy brown would contrast better against the rug and also update the look. Right now the table seems to disappear against the carpet. I did the same myself and sprayed a hammered black finish on the base of my square steel table, then got a new piece of beveled glass for it and voila! A totally new look. Good luck!

If you're getting a new coffee table, make a 2-dimensional mock-up out of (news)paper and lay it on the floor. It will give you a good idea of how much space it takes up. And keep in mind that the real thing will visually take up just that little bit more space ;-)

Here's a pic of my (old) coffee table painted hammered black. Rust oleum makes tons of great colors. When I moved to my new (old) house last year, I found that my wood and glass rectangular table was out of proportion. But fortunately, I had saved this.

This table had some brass detailing but was mostly steel. It did not require priming with the rust oleum paint used, just several light coats. I actually need to spray it again as I loved it so much I wanted to use it right away and never put a good second coat on it.

I know this may sound strange but have you tried the table on a diagonal position? From the pic it looks a tad small but an oval is a nice change to the straight lines elsewhere. Maybe a few more curves in the space oval mirror?

I can't see that many straight lines in the room... am I missing something? Curved pattern in the rug, round end table, round lamps, round armrests on sofas...

Lol very true now I recheck the pics there are curves. Interesting how many comments have referred to the straight lines, rectangles etc. think there may be a message there. The layout and design on the rug are giving a strong rectangular shape.

Try the space without the rug. Does the table sit better now?

Maybe a rug with a less contrasting design would help

Talking about the rug... I think it should be turned 1/4 so both sofas can have their front legs on it.

table is nice, top should be bigger and round, but the rug, might want to think about changing., pattern too big for size of room

I did exactly that to a square coffee table in my family room and from your picture it is very similar. I may bring that table upstairs just to try the look. Great idea

I have 2 French bergeres on theft her side of the room and my fireplace is a corner fireplace. I have had some difficulty arranging my room .

What a beautiful room! you have lovely taste. I would switch it out for something warmer, like a small wood chest/trunk. It would also give you additional storage space out of sight.

The only thing that looks odd to me are he candlesticks on the coffee table. I find them too tall and more suitable for a side or dining table.

I am concerned that the coffee table is too small.im not sure how I would place it on the angle or turning my rug.1/4 it would interfere with my traffic pattern to our patio.

Carolins what would you suggest in place of th candles. I do have shorter candle holders in brown

The shorter ones may be better It could be just my personal opinion though... I think they would be in view when you're sitting down and I would find that irritating. And I think that the scale is a bit off, but if you're not bothered by that you shouldn't change them on my behalf ;-) But you could just try the other ones perhaps...

Yes I know that all the legs are supposed to touch the carpet but I don't know what happened. I will definitely try that.

Now that I see your dining room and the lovely glass topped table there, perhaps the suggestion of getting a wooden trunk or something warmer-looking is the way to go for the coffee table.

I have brought my coffee table up from our family room, my husband will kill me,but I just wanted to try size wise and look.

I like your table and the accessories. But there is a lot of brown. I would add a pop of color. If you add a solid table you would cover up the pretty rug. I would think of adding a bright color in the form of pillows on the sofa and then another accessory in that same color. Some teal would be pretty.

Now that you know the square dimension works, I'd get a new square beveled top for the original table base. The original looks richer and higher quality to me.
