What do you think of the 5' x 8' rug I purchased for the entry?

It would look better without it. Competes with the side table.

I would recommend you go a bit darker. Although I think it is very pretty... Leslie is right, it does compete with side table. (or you can replace side table with a darker one).

It's nice, but I agree with Leslie,,it competes with the sideboard.

I too think it competes, you are a bit on scroll overload.

Agree that it is too much of a good thing.

Go simple on the floor to avoid competing with the wall

If I go with a more simple design what color would you suggest? Also, what color?

We would need to see more photo's of adjoining rooms to offer colors.

What pattern rug would you suggest? My colors in the other rooms off of the entry are neutral with some green and brown mixed in. This is a very open floor plan.

I am waiting on my furniture to come in, but here are the fabrics that are going on the pieces that I have coming.

You could pick the darker brown in your rug and go with that. I would do something simple,,,,it is an entry rug and people will come in with their shoes. I don't know if you allow street shoes in the house, but this rug will get all the traffic.

The geometric pattern is the drapery, the check is 2 chairs, the green is an ottoman, the leather is a recliner, the tan a sofa with the animal print pillows.

It is a lovely, elegant piece. However, I do think it is a bit much with the pattern of the furniture piece. But that is just my taste.

too busy... and possibly too light for the entry. It competes with the painted piece and will show dirt.

Yes, the cabinet and mirror are staying.

I know this is light colored for an entry but this is what my eye sees?

It's quite attractive, but you could use some color, too. maybe paint one wall withan accent color?

I don't mind it being light, we are careful with shoes. Where is the best place to look for rugs?
Home Decorators has a large selection.

Is Home Decorators a store? I live in Austin.
I don't have another place for the mirror, but I agree it could have been more simple.
Looks like no stores in Texas, you can order on line but I prefer to see a rug in person.

HI --- Everything is so nice but not together ,- there is too much pattern . Too many scrolls and swirls .The doors ,the mirror , the cabinet , and now the rug . I think a plain natural fiber rug ,like a sisal with an applied border would be best . The eye needs a place to rest .

I agree. Dark rug and a simpler design. Too much scroll going on. The rug is beautiful but not there.

I think the most important question is, do you like it Colleen?
We all have different taste. When I first saw your photo I found it a very pretty welcome! :-)

You said you don't mind light, and now if you are wanting to go plainer, how about something like this?

HI -- I think some nice soft color would be refreshing . A green would be nice , Colleen !

I would go brown because the chest and mirror are the where the eye will go and you need one place to zero in on. You may wish to wait until other pieces arrive also. I don't see green.. If you can remove the rug and take a pic for us.

Why not try a complete contrast and go silver;)

maybe it is just the light but it looks dark. I still like a rug at the door. I might remove the floral on the wall.

Do you have a plain simple light rug in the house you can put there and take a pic to show us? It is dark.

    I don't....maybe I can get a better pic!
It looks so much better without the rug you had. I would hope some professional designers could offer some ideas. Sometimes I will even put a towel or clothing in a color in the place to see if it works. A dark rug might be too dark. You have a beautiful foyer.

Too much brown in your foyer. Take it back and get a more colorful rug. One that contrasts with those polished boards and is much more inviting for yourself and your guests. Be brave, but make sure the door opens clear over the rug !
