    Yes, all wood that comes into contact with soil should be treated.

    It is important to relieve hydrostatic pressure behind solid retaining walls so in many cases this is important. Landscape timber garden walls naturally have spaces between timbers for water to seep through so added drain pipes are not essential.

    Hi Adrian,


    We've used treated landscape timbers for projects of all sizes from half a dozen pieces to well over two hundred, in this case about 50 pieces. Not shown in this photo are hillside terraced garden planters as well as step/stairs. Here are helpful measurements to help you calculate how many you may need for your project.

    - each timber is 8ft long

    - each 6in x 6in x 8ft sized will cover 4 square feet

    - each 8in x 8in x 8ft sized will cover 6 square feet

    I suggest a contractor be engaged to assure proper installation.
