Are those shingled walls vertical or are they sloped? If they are vertical walls, why not put actual siding on them instead of shingles? For the rest of the roofing, use large-scale architectural shingles, not multi-colored or scalloped. The style of house doesn't call for unusual shingles.

trixie, I am with you on this one. Mansard roofs can be “overwhelming”? at best and IMO when everything blends in, it takes away that top heavy look. I vote gray.

If iplay10s is saying to paint the cream to gray, I agree. That example photo looks nice. I didn't love the warm cream paint and red brick mixed with the cool gray, but without the cream involved, the red and gray should go well together.

GIF makes some designer shingles that would look nice on this house. I would go lighter in color so it doesn't look so dark up top. grey, or weathered wood.

Thanks for your advice. We did go lighter with a "greyish"tan color on the shingles. Next, we'll have to choose siding this spring. With the winter we're having that might be July!
