Our porch reno

We purchased our home in historical West Galt Ont. 5 years ago which is also when we began renovating in earnest. It took us a while to get to the exterior of our home, but believe the wait was very much worth it!
Here a before and afters...

Sorry to say I much preferred the before.
The columns and big dentil moulding look out of proportion to the house.

This is a very nice example of how to dress up a house.....The new front porch creates a new space for the family to gather. The new bermed earth next to the driveway is a nice replacement for the retaining wall.........

in response to Sue642002's question, all the material in white is PVC. This was our only concession modern maintenance free convenience. The rest of the construction material on the porch was in keeping of a 140 yr old house such as tongue and group wood for the porch floor and ceiling. One of the greatest design features to the porch, is what you don't see... the collection and disposal of water on the roof. There are three drains build into the ceiling which funnels into one of the pillars eliminating the need for eves troughs. We thank our friend and builder Jeff Pys at 360 Design Build for the ingenious idea!

This added so much to the home. Major updates yet it didn't take away any of the character just added to it! Brilliant...from ho-hum to amazing now!

I liked it until I read PVC. Plastic has no business on a 140 yo house in an Historical district. This home is going to LONG outlive you. It's not about what's "easy" for you...it's about what is right for the period of the home. Especially being in the district. I'm surprised they let you use those materiels.

Beautiful transformation! I'm looking to do a similar project on my 1905 home. Would you mind sharing the total cost and time it took to construct the porch? Thanks

I drive past this house all the time, and have known it all my life. It's a very appropriate porch. Please post what you have done with some of the other feature of the house (like the interesting main floor bathroom).

I like it. The porch and landscaping have elevated it to look its graceful age. The previous picture is nice , but now the house looks more stately.
