flat roof house with lighting issues

I just bought a flat roofed house. The only lighting in the ceiling is in the kitchen and it is very ugly track lighting. I am told I can't put in potlights because there is no attic. Anyone find very attractive track lighting to go in a mid century modern home with wood ceilings? Also I don't have any lighting in the dining room. Wall sconces? Help!

So many attractive track lighting systems out there. Search "Track Lighting Systems" remember to add eye level lighting and even some up lighting on the floor if you can:

It's really hard to get even coverage with track lights (which I have). Undercounter cabinet lights in the kitchen help.

I have no ceiling lights in my dining room. I've got lamps on the buffets & other tables, a floor lamp & lights at the top of built-in shelves. It's really warm looking at night. Sconces would be lovely too!

I have the same issue, 1959 post and beam ceiling with roof directly on top. It's currently very dark with only one ceiling light in the kitchen but I am probably going to switch to cable lighting when I gut the kitchen. It's pretty versatile and I won't have to pierce the roof. Here's some pictures that show cable lighting:
