We have hardwood in our kitchen and bath. It's fine. Yes, you wipe up spills quickly, but we would with tile anyway. It may have a shorter life due to wear n tear but to us, it's worth it.

Wood and water do not mix. It's all about low maintenance now.

Wood is so much easier to clean than tiles and I don't think its a problem if you're tidy and use bath mats etc. I think its a great idea.

it's not just about being tidy.. There's a lot of moisture in the bathroom and lets face it, it's not practical in the bathroom or the kitchen.. How do you clean lotion or eggs from between the planks? Easier to clean I think not. With tile you just mop it up. Done.

It might be tile. Do a search for "wood look tile". Some look a lot like this.

Maybe it's Traffic Master Allure. It's perfect for wood-look kitchens and baths. We put it in our kitchen 6 years ago, and it looks as good today as it did then. Cleans easily, wears very well and is waterproof. Inexpensive and easy DIY, too. Looks better than laminate in my opinion. There is a higher-end Dupont version, but I'm really happy with the Allure.
