brick home - paint removal - Help!!!

I have a 700sqft brick home that has been painted with 4 layers of gosh knows what type of paint- lead, latex not really sure. It was built in 1938. I really wanted to restore the brick and as a last resort even though I read against doing it I did a test spot sandblast and it ruined the face of the brick. So, a few questions since this is not a option and I don't want to use chemicals what is the best way to treat the situation do I continue to paint? If so does anyone have any ideas about colors for a blue brick house with large windows. I want to put blinds up but I have to figure out my outside color scheme before doing so. I am someone whom favors a combo of shabby chic french vintage but sea grass and beachy. I was going to white wash the brick but that's out. Any ideas on a paint color? I would really like to highlight the character of the home but give it an East coast Cape cod, Martha's vineyard beachy feel. Any ideas? As you can see from far away my house looks in very good condition but on closer inspection the paint is peeling off and there are cracks in my brick as well as some areas needing new mortar. A friend thinks I should just put siding on but that means I will need to nail into the brick and I am concerned about covering it up because if something starts to deteriorate underneath I won't know. That's all if anyone has ideas, suggestions I accept all. Thank you for your time
