white tile floor, white walls, interesting blk/ whte geometric shade or curtain fabric. Or, hot pink walls, white floor, hot pink trim on window sill and mirror and vanity base. Very girly.

What about a smaller vanity that looks modern and mounts on wall? decorplanet.com has some nice ones. I would go with white, because of the black tile.
Another suggestion would be to remove the black tile, and just do a nice light color tile on floor and 4" base board. If there is no shower here, you don't need so much tile in the walls. You could just leave it as drywall, that is a more updated look.

I think that could be a lovely little bath. I'd go vintage black and white coin tiles on the floor or Octagone. Paint your vanity or bring in a new wood one for a fresh look. color can be brought in with towels, art and a pretty rug or mat.
Maybe a clean white counter top ( Ceasar Stone? ), white vessel sink and new faucet.

If the black tiles are eventually leaving, then I would not modify the bathroom with them being a design factor. I would think of what you ultimately want, and put in a floor that reflects your ultimate vision of the space. Since black is pretty neutral it should not clash too badly with whatever flooring choice you make. In the meantime, I would use paint on the walls and vanity, rather than wasting $$ on piecemeal rennovations that you ultimately may not want.

If it were my bathroom, I would paint the walls in some king of grey, buy a really cool patterned shower curtain that had black and grey in it, and then perhaps use either fuschia pink or turquoise blue as accent colors with towels. Then, when funds permitted, I would get exactly wht I wanted without having spent too much on stuff that will be removed.

Great comments. I should have included that there's a white tub/enclosed shower to the right -- out of the photo frame. The tub has a bit of a 40's deco feel (not builder grade...) I would love to bring in wood if possible--prefer transitional look to ultramodern or retro. Also, would love a cool ceiling mounted light fixture if anyone has suggestions.
