It depends on the ceiling height in the room too.

It is a small living room, so the scale of the chandelier shoud be smaller too.

If the ceilings are lower, around 9 to 10 feet, then the bottom of the chandelier might want to be 7'6". If the ceiling is taller, around 12' plus or minus, then the chandelier bottom might be higher, around 8 1/2 feet to 9 feet.

If you have an 8' ceiling, you will want to hang the chandelier lower but place it in a corner over a table so that people don't hit their heads on it........

If you have short family and friends, you can hang lower....... no not really :)) ... I think many of us will clear a chandelier if it is about 7' from the bottom to the floor for an 8' ceiling. I might have to see it in a room

In most csses if the chandeleir lowest point is 6'8" from the floor you will do OK. I have a very large room with only 9 foot ceiings and mine is at 6'2". The room is large enough that you can see it when you enter and so can walk around it since it is in the middle of the room. It is hard to find a chandelier that can accomodate a large room with a low ceiling.
