Also - how much are you willing/wanting to change? If you are interested in lots of changes then I would wait to make a final decision on paint color.

Hi firefly, I have been on your kitchen post, and with regards to wall colors these two spaces need to be treated as one, don't they? Looking at the slate backsplash from your kitchen, along with the huge expanse of golden oak cabinets, I'm wondering if a taupe with just a hint of yellow would work best for a change. Something like Jute or Natural Linen by Ben Moore, maybe?

So, concentrating on this room - I'm not sure what you meant by being willing to make any changes necessary because that's kind of a loaded gun lol., but, I'll assume you would be keeping your sofa and arm chair, at least. So, starting with the FP - it would be. Ice if it could be beefed up so that it has a more substantial profile as it's getting a bit lost on that wall. At the very least, maybe oainting it a deep charcoal - maybe BM Iron Mountain? - would give it more presence. Also, on each side of the FP, I would place a low dresser or similar cabinet to fill in that wall a bit better. On the right side, you could place the TV on top of it, and for the one on the left, hang the big star above it at about the same height as the TV. For the space above the FP, you could casually lean a medium sized piece of art, along with a couple of pieces of pottery in the red accent color that is in your arm chair.

Your sofa should be centred in the room (can't tell if it is already), and your arm chair could come out a little further - which it would have to if there was a cupboard behind it! I wouldn't worry about that tall wall - it is what it is. I would just place an oversize arc-type floor lamp over there for lighting for the arm chair, plus the lamp itself would act as sculpture and would echo the oversize proportions of that wall.

It doesn't look like you have an area rug in there, so I would put one in for added texture. Make it an 8X10 or 11' rug, and place the front feet of the sofa over the one end of the rug. I would also hang curtain panels to fill in the window wall a bit more. Hang them halfway between top of window and the ceiling, and have the rod wide enough apart that when the curtains are fully open, you can still see all of the window. I think I would hang panels in that middle section too, to make the windows more cohesive. A few throw pillows on the sofa and your room will look totally different!

I did up a couple of collages,to,show you different ways you could go with the "look". You could stay quite monochromatic, or you could okay up the red - whichever you prefer. I hope you are inspired in some way by the ideas and pics - happy decorating!

Im wondering if painting that tall wall would help bring it down some, visually...? Or maybe painting the window wall may help distract from the tallness of the opposite wall...?
