My toaster oven died yesterday (it was a Krups). I need recommendations for a new one. What brand would you recommend?

When my youngest was a little girl she started a fire with a poptart in the toaster. After that, no more toasters. But, I missed my cinnamon toast. So about 10 years ago we bought a Breville toaster convection oven. I use it for almost all of our roasting, baking and toasting needs. We are empty nesters and its just the right size for us.

I love under the counter toaster ovens ..they don't take up much space ..but they are harder to find

Can't believe I lived most of my life without a toaster oven! Got my first one when my last toaster died less than a year ago. Love, love, love the toaster oven. I have made the best turkey breast in that thing...tender and juicy.

So no toaster replacement and the too large microwave is about to be replaced with a tiny one. Only use it now for boiling water, reheating coffee, and popcorn.

I love a toaster oven! I just wish they'd make a good one that's narrower to fit better on my kitchen counter. Most, I've found take up too much space.

We bought a country retreat two years ago and the previous owner left an under-cabinet toaster oven. Small thing from Black & Decker. I love it and use frequently. But lately the door started to malfunction. We decided to replace it with a newer version. All I could find is the same model but for a whopping $ 599.00!!! I cannot believe the toaster oven can be so expensive and that no other manufacture makes it. Help! I will need to replace it sooner or later, but 600 bucks for a toaster oven?!? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a Cuisinart toaster oven and could not live without it. I never use my regular oven. Whenever I have company and they use it they all say they have to have one. They have all purchased a Cuisinart. Love it!

TOASTER!!!!!!! It's cute and retro

Toaster! I got a wonderful new one from my daughter last Christmas. It's a Breville Lift and Look model with a motor. The toast goes down with the touch of a button and if you want to see it before it's done, you push the "Lift and Look" button. There is also a button that gives it "A little More" time if it's not done enough. Most of the time the toast is perfect. I've been through 3 toasters in 10 years and none of them worked like this one!

I've never even heard of a toaster oven (uk) Don't you guys in the US have grills as part of your ovens? Why do you need a separate toaster oven?

Cuisinart TOB series - Toaster Convection Oven Broiler Exact Heat. I have this one. Love it. It's great for fish too. I think it can be under cabinet mount too. I've had mine for 6 years. It's on the smaller size.

I have not had success with the broiling function on my Oster toaster oven. It seems wimpy and ineffective.. I plan to try cooking a chicken one day. So far I only have success with toasting and warming pizza.

I do NOT need more to clean, so I chose a toaster.

bunkybabe, I have an Oster and am disappointed with the broiling function as well. I tried to broil a steak and it did not get hot enough. It does work well for me for roasting turkey Brest and baking fish. I haven't tried the rotisserie yet.

You are encouraging me to expand my horizon, Rosebud3. I guess I'll vote for the toaster oven over the toaster.

What's the deal with toasters these days? I find they only last a year or two, no matter what the price. When I was a kid we had the same awesome toaster for probably 20 years!

Toaster only for me and I'm with Mark, off the counter when not in use. @Remax, I have had my black plasticky Kenmore $20.00 toaster 9 years. Great for bagels or toast and the slots are wide enough I turn it in its side and put cheese on a bagel to melt.

Does anyone remember having a two slice chrome toaster with sides that flipped down and you had to turn the bread over to toast the other sides. I can smell the burned bread just thinking about forgetting to flip the slice.

Remap - Lisa, I'm with you. My toasters have never lasted long. They soon totally ignore whatever setting you have it on and give you burnt...

I have to have both. I put my toaster in the cupboard when I'm not using it. Love, Love, Love my toaster oven. I guess an oven can do the same thing, but I never used it for everything like I do my toaster oven. Might be more of a necessity for singles or couples, not families. Families would get better use from the oven probably. The toaster oven is great for a couple slices of the frozen garlic bread, heating up pizza, anything you want to have some crunch instead of get mushy in the microwave.

Regular toast doesn't turn out very well, so you still need the toaster if you like a lot of toast or frozen waffles. My cheapy Black and Decker has lasted for years.

I had both but was told that my kitchen was cluttered with too many items so put the toaster oven on bottom shelf, have not used it since.

We have a toaster oven for thawing and reheating ... but my preference for making toast is my 20 year old cast iron skillet over a gas flame.

Neither; they take up counter space, they're impossible to clean, and most people don't recycle their broken small appliances so not great for the environment.

I use both regularly for different reasons. Toaster ovens generally take more energy to run so if I am making just toast I use the toaster and I use the oven for the bigger stuff.

@condomary, now I'm scared for you. Please be careful with your toaster on its side and melting cheese in it! Toasters are the #1 fire hazard in our homes, and that's just with regular toasting. Not gonna get any more sleep tonight while I worry about you....:)

Can not get by without using my small sized toaster oven daily. It works in place of stove top, convection microwave oven or even my full size oven. I can use a tray or rack option so it is versatile, more efficient and less mess to clean. It stays perfectly clean if you line the tray with foil or the bottom comes out on mine to be cleaned or can also be lined in foil. I would not cook a whole chicken in it instead I would use my microwave convection oven or full size oven. It is so nice to have options.

I Like smaller appliances in my kitchen. Don't want to take up much needed counter space. Not big on clutter.

I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE my Breville Toaster Oven! I use it for everything, like roasting salmon, toasting flatbread-style pizzas, etc. I hardly ever heat up my big oven anymore, and I banished the microwave to the garage. Our family of three is eating so much better since we kicked the microwave habit. We didn't intend to, but we moved and there was no good place to put the MW in our new kitchen. The only time I miss it is when I'm cooking rice or to reheat coffee (but let's face it, by the time you're reheating the coffee, it's already gone bad). I highly recommend Breville (I have their panini press, too, which also works great). And no, I am not a paid spokesperson-just enthusiastic to have appliances that over-deliver on their promises!

Toaster oven!!!! You can use ir for othears meals for example pizza, pie, hamburguers....

Toaster oven - because it does so much more than a toaster and it doesn't heat up your apartment/house as much as using the oven.

@Shelleyuk. Shelley, I have lived in the US and I haven't seen cookers with a top toaster ( connected to the cooker). I love the UK cookers for that reasons, The toaster ovens come in very small sizes to big, very much like a microwave only they have shelves like the toaster above the cookers in UK but work as a stand alone. They are pretty efficient too!

Barbara Stock - I have read the reviews on the Brevilles and they are all good. One of my friends has one and loves it. I'm pretty happy with my Oster but when I can afford it I'd love to replace it with a nice Breville.

I know this is about toaster vs toaster ovens and I will comment but I am against microwaves. I just don't feel comfortable around them. I use my large confection toaster oven for everything but don't like the look of it in my small kitchen so I am looking for a third option. I need something small and it looks like my overused toaster oven is about to give up after 2 years anyway.

I used to have a toaster oven. I now have a double oven with smaller oven on the top. Love it! Heats up quickly and cooks just about anything. The only thing I should have done is have it built in because the lower oven is too low. However, I use the top ovent 4 x more often.

Toaster. I never saw the point of having a toaster oven. I only toast bread and bagels so suits our needs.

I put other. We have never had a toaster oven and we have graduated up to the four-slice model. My mother has a toaster oven(nearly ready to give up the ghost) so I have used it and do use it when I go visiting. It is handy for making toast and reheating pizza; I never tried anything else.

I also use toaster ovens, but toasters looks retro and cool. Could not decide.
