$4800 for a new kitchen is just amazing. The countertops remind me of the steel edged laminate that was popular in the 1940's and 1950's in the US.

I'm seeing here on Houzz the use of Ikea kitchen cabinets. The kitchens look amazing as I peruse the vignettes at Ikea, but what is the quality? I made the mistake of purchasing a Malm dresser for my son years ago from Ikea, so never thought of using their kitchen cabinets! I will be redoing top to bottom a kitchen in the next year, and of course on a budget.....can I consider Ikea?

Nice work, Barry. I think the key for Ikea is that while the price point can be attractive, there are some limitations, in terms of getting full plywood boxes at this price, right? Depending on how your kitchen is used, this can be a nice solution for a kitchen refresh on a budget.

Every Ikea kitchen uses the same boxes, either natural or white. The difference is the doors and hardware, which vary greatly in quality and price. If you want full plywood boxes, Ikea isn't for you...but I've renovated many a kitchen using Ikea and as long as you install correctly they are perfectly good for anything but a high-end house. I like that I don't have to order months in advance, and if we need to make changes after installation starts...it's not too painful. I do this to make money and it's great when I'm happy and the client is happy. Quick turnaround is what makes that possible.

@Barry: thanks for the explanation about Ikea cabinet use. Do these cabinets have hidden drawer pulls?

Ikea is constantly changing things, but they did have a hidden pull last time I used them (about 8 months ago). Another great thing about Ikea is that their drawers and doors have the slow closing dampener that all the high end cabinets have.

The Ikea countertops are great. I used Numerar for this kitchen, for a total of under $300.

It looks really good and simple-not surprised it's holding up. Was curious what are the countertops and the trim around them?

The countertops were an ikea product called Numerar and cost around $100. The metal trim around it is built in.

There needs to be a cabinet above the washer/dryer unit to tie in with the other cabinets as it looks like something is missing.
