That is Leopard plant, formerly named Ligularia tussilaginea 'Aureomaculata'; now named Farfugium japonicum 'Aureo-maculata'. I guess they thought the first name was too easy to remember and spell . It's a bit of a slug attractor here in Santa Barbara. These clients use shallow cups of beer (not good beer, just beer) to attract and trap them. You can also bait with Sluggo which is non-toxic and effective. These plants are growing under the shade of a California pepper tree, which has allows bright, filtered light to reach them. When they flower in the spring, there are spectacular yellow "rockets" the shoot up over the plants. Quite a charmer.
