Select stools that are comfortable for sitting g more than just 15 minutes at a time. Before my remodel was finished, I used a high-quality rush seat/wood-frame barstool (PB) at my new island. After 20 minutes of sitting in that barstool, my general discomfort required me to get up and move around. I ended up purchasing well-padded, upholstered bar stools (RH) that were far more comfortable than the wood frame/rush seat combination.

Definitely go for comfort over looks. It is a bit hard to tell from the photo but the overhang on the island does not look sufficient for stools. At 36" above the finished floor you should have an overhang of 15"-18" to avoid bruising your knees on the back of the island.

I just measured. It is 10" so I guess no soup at the island. Thank you for the great advice. I've been here two months.
