    Hi Ryan,
It is easy to cut. The wood is only 1/8" or 3/16" thick so cutting is not a problem. We have a How to video on our website. http://www.stikwood.com/pages/how-to And please let me know if you have any other questions.

Is it removable? I am wondering if I can use it in an apartment, then take it down before I move out.

Stikwood is semi permanent. Think of it as removing tile. You would have some drywall damage to repair and the wood planks would break when removing. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Is there any special prep for the wall prior and can you use it beside a gas fireplace?

    Hi Chartranda!
As far as prep, the surface needs to be a clean and dried and free of any debris. We recommend that the surface be painted or primered prior to applying Stikwood.
We have had many customers use it beside a gas fireplace, but remember that Stikwood is REAL wood; therefore, as long as the flames from the fireplace do not touch the wood, it will be fine.
Visit our facebook page to see a few photos where customers have used Stikwood around their fireplace.
