love my miele also - I use the floor brush --not even the carpet attachment.

I have had a Miele for over 18 years, we even use it on jobsites. It is worth every penny!

it must be the best solution for rugs then, sorry for my skepticism! these days so many people are paid for product endorsements, i get very nervous!

I have a wool runner in my upstairs hall, I just use my Dyson and it works fine. Wool rugs are very forgiving!

I use Kirby and it is really good.

The Miele upright I bought last year is too strong for my smallest, thinnest old oriental rugs unless it is on the "Curtains" setting. Then it works beautifully. So I actually change settings depending on the are rug being vacuumed, keeping it on the "carpet" setting, but moving between "low pile" for the larger, heavier rugs and "curtains" for rugs that are either smaller or thinner. Then I put it on the hardwood floors setting for the areas without rugs. I think what is important is not so much the brand of vacuum (though I love the sturdiness of the MIele) but the variety of settings and suction strengths for different purposes.

I was lucky to buy a nearly new Kirby (sweeper and carpet cleaner) from a friend who bought two from her grandson who was selling them. It had been used maybe only three times. I've had many other brands (Hoover etc.) throughout my life. This Kirby is one great vacuum with strong sucking power for carpets and floors. I wanted metal not plastic, a front light, and all replaceable parts. In vacuums you get what you pay for!

I have Miele upright but prefer the canister one, the canister bare floor attachment seems gentler on the bare floor and the carpet attachment is great for carpets.
The carpet head also seems to fit nicely between chair legs.

There are so many bad products on the market, that when you find a good one, you can't wait to tell someone about it.

I have two Miele cannister ones myself. I love them-- never had a vacuum cleaner work so well. In fact, I like Miele so much that when we had to get a new dishwasher, we noticed Miele makes them, too- got one of those, and it is the best dishwasher we have ever owned-- bar none. I *think* Miele products are made in Germany, and- from my experience- the most well-made items are made in either Germany or the U.S. (maybe Italy, too, certainly for design)
