Do a search for Hardwood floors in the discussion section of Houzz. You'll find hundreds of discussions laying out the pros and cons of different hardwoods, hand-scraped hardwood, engineered hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and wood-look porcelain tiles.

The word 'laminate' still doesn't carry the same weight as real hardwood to most people's minds.

I would go laminate

If you are thinking about resale I'd also look into what is the standard where you live. For me, hardwoods have always been a must have.

i like how the high quality laminates are hardy and wear reeeeeeally well.
the room with the laminate in my home is the one that gets the most use. my mom runs her upholstery business out of that room. the floor looks great after many years of dropped staple guns, pushed air compressors, dragged and pushed chairs, couches, etc.

if you want a better return on investment when you sell, a hardwood will get you your money back, though.
