Does the bed have to sit in front of the door?..very awkward. It appears that you have plenty of room to put the bed and night stands on the wall where you have the dresser and wardrobe...move the dresser to the wall left of the bed and place the wardrobe on the wall between the windows where the small picture is hanging, unless you plan to place a chair there which would look good with a small round accent table. Perhaps the dressing table would work on the wall to the right of the door....it appears too small in front of those windows. The dresser may also look good centered under those windows. Maybe the dressing table could go in another room. The picture hanging between the windows is too small...perhaps a larger, rectangle pic or mirror there, or group three smaller ones. Need larger rugs also. Would like to see a view of the fireplace wall. If you use that blue on the walls, maybe a dark gray throw on the bed and some gray accent pillows...appears the carpet has a golden yellow tone...if so, believe the gray would work.

The yellow in the carpet is fighting with your current wall color. The blue would be nice with grey accents as bumpy suggests. Nice windows and molding. I would change out fabric on dressing table chair. That piece would look good painted a dark gray. I agree with bumpy on the rugs to. Current ones are too small.

Susanna, I really like fabric to bring in visual interest and a richness and depth to colour (neutral or not, fabric really adds something). With that in mind, I think a quick and easy solution is to treat the area behind your bed as if it was a headboard - either build a padded one that covers the area and extends to cover the door (perhaps delay plastering) or hang fabric from a track on the ceiling (or rod on the wall). Given the period details, you could aim for a tapestry effect, even if the fabric is modern. Great room!
