Keep the stained wood trim. It's warm and beautiful. Type "teal rug" into Google. Click on "images" and tons of possibilities will pop up. But, you really need to go see them in person to know. I love that you used color in your room. Bravo for you!

Yay! At last a person who knows they need a rug straight away - congrats:)

Suggestions:
1) - Go with a pattern - they hide a multitude of sins/stains
2) - Pick a pattern that has teal in it, but that does not have teal as the primary color. Too much of a good thing....
3) - Don't pick a white or light background unless your dining room is seldom-used & all your friends drink white wine instead of red!

Suggest you get some shades for the chandelier - less glare & they will help fill it out & add warmth to the space.

Keep the trim .....

You can definitely have a rug with alot of teal because the dark furniture will cover most of it anyways. The furniture will also create a "barrier" with the wall so the teal won't be overwhelming. I do suggest having some ivory floor to ceiling curtains with some sheers (remove the blinds) on all the windows to break up the teal. Just a side note......the chandelier is too high.....it should be at around 36" from the table. :)

If I were working on your project, then I would do the following: change out your mini blinds to wood that matches your current millwork stain…paint the picture frame molding that runs the perimeter of the room above the windows the same color as the walls but in a semi-gloss finish…paint the ceiling a color 3 shades lighter than the walls like Ben Moore "crystal blue" (2051-70) because the white ceiling coupled w/the stained molding makes the room feel very short…definitely lower your chandelier…choose an indoor/outdoor (easy to clean no matter what folks are drinking!) rug w/a larger pattern like the ikat above but w/more contrasting colors…hang sheer panels that frame your windows & complement the colors in your rug…don't forget to post "after" shots!

Love your idea of adding terracotta! Agree with Felixgrantham, I would get some shades for the chandelier .. in terracotta.

Colorful rug .. terracotta, teal & other colors and I would not paint the trim.
