Thanks again groveraxle... do you do that in photoshop? Specialty Doors, we did paint, which I put up pics of. Now the light from the ceiling fan seems to be blaring in the room at night. I do need to do something about that, because I've tried using lower watt bulbs and it still hurts my eyes

groveraxle, your posts are fantastic.

Yes, it is so helpful! But now seeing both rugs in the room I'm not sure that either are what I'm looking for!

Callie, I think the wall colour you chose is very nice and I *really* like the new TV stand.

Yes, it's Photoshop, and I suppose I really should have repainted before I inserted the rugs. The pic of your room, Callie, is from months ago and I don't think the wall color is quite accurate anymore.

Okay, I take that back. Wall color doesn't look bad, but the photo doesn't reflect the new TV cabinet. And I suggest you might want to wait for the sectional to arrive before choosing the rug.

I've been *trying* to, only one more week....

Here's the sectional… The trunk has got to go but I just have it there for now. Now to find window treatments, a coffee table or ottoman, and a rug!

I would choose a light rug with the big dark sectional....Also lighter colored window treatments. Looks much different than when you started! :)

I've been looking online today and here are a few things I'm thinking about… opinions?

Not loving the rug, especially not the round one. I like the curtains except for the grommets. A plain ivory on rings and clips would look better, I think. And I don't know about an arc lamp--especially with three shades--if you're keeping the ceiling fan. I think they will compete too much.

You could replace the fan with a pendant or chandelier. Or if you need the fan, take off the light kit and use lamps instead.

That is funny, because I was searching for curtains with grommets. Do you think they are too formal? I love these from restoration hardware, but they seem kind of expensive? And I'm not sure sheer is the way to go…

One more:

Restoration Hardware's curtains are way too expensive. Look at jcpenney or west elm or even pottery barn. I wouldn't go sheer; just unlined for a more casual look. (I assume you don't need light control or privacy.)

I don't think I'd do grommets in this room, but what the hey, I was wrong about the arc lamp, so I could be wrong about the grommets too. ;-) I do like the light natural color fabric though.

I didn't think I liked the cocoa swirl rug but it looks great in the mock up by Groveraxel. With 4 kids and pets it should do well.

I like the second or third pic in groveraxle's latest post!
Room is looking great so far

I love the last rug in groveraxle last four picture post. Groveraxle when your done with this I would love your advice on mine. I love the way you think and how you take in ideas from the person who is posting. Then the whole photoshop thing is awesome. The room is pulling together and is looking good!!

You're amazing groveraxle, thank you so much! Where did you find rug #1 and #4? I'm not too crazy about the floral one, and the last one I think may be too light and show up too much with the kids. I may just get the lamp and see how it looks and return it if it doesn't work :)

First rug: http://plushrugs.com/surya/brentwood/bnt-7678/robins-egg-blue-antique-white/

4th rug: http://plushrugs.com/kaleen/habitat/sea-spray/spa/

Here are 16 pages of large blue transitional and contemporary rugs: http://plushrugs.com/search/?color=2&page=1&results_per_page=96&size=4&style=1&style=9

You can further refine it by maximum price, secondary color, etc.

If you find something else you want me to Photoshop, post the link here and I'll stick it in your room.

Found these curtains at JCP and thought I wouldn't be able to beat the price.

If they get here and don't look good they will be an easy return, and I got the rods and clips ordered too :) The lamp will have to wait or I will have to find something else- its on back order. I think we are leaning towards rug #1

Could you show me what these look like please if you have time, groveraxle? Thank you so much! And i you are like "yuck!" tell me. They are probably too dark...

You will not beat the price on those drapes. Good find.

Here are the rugs you requested. (Once I've done one rug, it's easy to do more.)

I like the first rug. Don't care for the other two. But I think I prefer the lighter teal you chose before. (Actually, my favorite is the blue floral, rug #2, but no one else chose that one. Ah well.)

There is too much furniture in the space. The couch and the two big reclining chairs are too big for the space. Scale down the size of the furniture. I would keep the two slipper chairs. Place the slipper chairs near the window. If you purchase a sectional make sure it is small and do not over crowd the space. The window treatments need to updated. If you hang the drapes closer to the top, you will elongate the height of the space. I would hang simple panels either a simple print or solid color for drapes will look great.

thank you again groveraxle! my boyfriend and his daughter both like #2 the best as well

#1 and #4 in groveraxle's first grouping of rugs!

could you try these two as well please groveraxle?

Here ya go, Callie.

Thanks again groveraxle. Still looking, maybe I am being too picky? Just haven't seen something that I know is the one! Here is a picture of the new curtains and a new lamp...

and added a few other things here..

Lookin' good, Callie. Go ahead and be picky. I say wait till you know you've found The Rug. I like your canvas art over the chair, but the clock is dwarfed (and odd). I think you should send it to live in the kitchen.

Would you please try this rug groveraxle? and what do you think of it?

they have quite a few on zulily that are pretty cheap and might look good

I like the rug, Callie, but it's a little boring in your space, IMO.

start with a light, neutral paint and replace the window treatments with something that hangs FROM THE CEILING. It will make a huge difference until you can find furniture.

what about this one? or is it too busy??

Might be just enough blue in this one to work.

Change the color of your wall . White or pearl white.
Then put some Victorian white color sofas.
Give this room a grand traditional look .

hmmm, I think I like it :) lol

Thank you again!!!

So what is your final decision ?
Dear Callie , can you tell me how can I contact Groveraxle ? I liked the way of his different ideas . I also need to redesign my family space.

I would paint the moldings white... I think it would lighten up the room a bit.

I finally decided to go with rug #1 that groveraxle posted, placed the order and it said it would ship yesterday. Got an email today saying it is on backorder until 4/30 so I cancelled it! Isn't that just my luck :)

So go with the second rug instead. It's my fave, and your boyfriend's and his daughter's, if I remember correctly. ;-)

Hi. I really think you need to go with a lighter rug. You have really large furniture and everything else is pretty dark. I like the 4th one in the 1st grouping of 4. As close as possible to the wall color. The curtains opened (one in each side) definitely would look better and may I suggest the pottery barn round tanner table. It would keep the room more open looking. The wall color is very nice.

I have been going back and forth between a coffee table or an ottoman, it would be nice to have a place to put our feet up but a table as well

What do you guys think about a cream colored rug with a coffee table like this:
https://www.jossandmain.com/Factory-Finds-Lowell-Coffee-Table~VLH2364~E9801.html
With a few poufs under such as these?
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Delphi-Pouf/8274697/product.html?searchidx=3

new rug….

Yay. I like it. A totally different direction, but it looks good. I'd get a coffee table with legs.

Love your decision to go with the sectional! You can't beat the seating possibilities and comfort, and it is definitely possible to still have a chic look with a sectional. If you are interested in industrial style coffee tables that are more affordable than Restoration Hardware/similar brands, take a look at these made-to-order oak and steel coffee tables from Oak & Iron. I think the clean lines would balance the large sofa and match well with your dining room style.

They even ship free.
