I agree with the crew of 2. Before you go to this expense, I think there are a couple of things we could try to make your room seem larger.

1) Change our your window treatments so that they are all the same. (but let's move the furniture first.)
2) Your furniture arrangement should be changed, including a larger rug (or is that rug a carpet?)

So, I would need more pictures of the room, but here is what I am thinking. Could you try this and repost pictures? Will cost you nothing.

1) Remove the table behind the couch for now. (Maybe we can find another use for it)
2) Move the couch to face the fireplace. (so, your couch and loveseat will form an L)

I am thinking what you could do with drapes is to place:

1 panel on the right side of the French doors (no panel on left)
1 panel on the left side of wall at end of fireplace (even though there is no window)
1 panel on each side of window wall.

PS: one easy thing you can do also is to paint your mantle a deeper color. It will really make your fireplace stand out and draw your eye there instead of the doors.
