Is the door behind the FP to a closet or is it the entry? The light fixture there would lead one to believe that is the designated dining space, but where is the kitchen? Please comment here and use the Attach Images button to add pix of the entire room, not just one end. Do you own or rent? What is the budget and how much do you want to do? Two major thoughts are new flooring and removal of the vertical blinds. The date stamp on your pix tells me you are not showing us the current state of this room, so we really can't be sure we're making appropriate suggestions for the current state it is in.

The fireplace begs for a conversation area facing it: some comfy chairs and maybe a love seat on a colorful rug with a little teal and gold in it to set off the green fireplace tile. I'd paint the room a light neutral color, or maybe a warm creamy not too bright yellow. Drapes at the sides of the sliding door pick up the rug colors, and the rest of the room can be a TV/game room, office, library, music or eating area. An unusual table would be a nice focal point Hang some paintings from a local artist or art group (these can be much less expensive than prints from a gallery or decorator).
