Actually, from soft to hard on the mohs scale is; engineered quartz/granite, granite, high quality glass, and then natural quartz is slightly harder than glass. Since glass is made from quartz sand, it is close to the same, but when they add impurities like manganese oxide to it to eliminate the green color as shown above, it is slightly softer. Also, natural impurities like iron oxide make it slightly softer. It only appears to scratch easier because it is crystal clear to begin with while natural stone actually has scratches all over it to begin with from polishing it.
