Living Room Layout help Needed! Open plan layout

Dear Houzz members,

I have been struggling to come up with a suitable layout for my living room an I come to you for help! The biggest issue for me is the room size, entrance point to the living room and the fact it is an open plan.

I would like to have a small 4 seat dining table and a sitting area with TV. The layout of the previous owner (I just bought the house) had an L shaped couch next to the kitchen peninsula, but I'm thinking this is not ideal because of the kitchen being just behind it?

I can't seem to to come up with anything with a natural layout (and with enough space to walk around)!

I attach a floorplan, any help/ideas would be soo appreciated!

Many Thanks

Fil

Depending on your preferences, place the dining table either by the window or along the wall at the bottom. The entry point to this open space is not bad sine it's towards the middle.

Have lived in this type. Avoid large arms on furniture and other space wasters. Get double- duty furniture like ottoman/ storage/ coffee table. Get enough lounge furniture for residents only and some folding chairs in closet for guests. Get an extending table. This illustrates the problems with open plan.

    Dear both,

many thanks for your advice, I will definitely take it onboard! As for the layout, I am now thinking to get a small dining table and put it next to the peninsula. On the bottom left corner I will arrange one sofa (no large arms!), coffee table, and thinking one arm chair. I will then add an ottoman (including storage). It however leaves me with the top left corner of the room without a purpose! Not sure how I could arrange this!

    Thanks again for any help!

Try TV on the short wall by the entry, Apartment sized chaise sofa with right hand chaise in the corner opposite TV, small swivel chair with back to windows. A glass dining table will help keep space open. Center it on the windows with a nice chandy hanging above it. You might try a pair of dining/accent chairs to pull from table to living area, instead of the swivel.
This little sectional is nice because it can be separated and used differently if you ever have more space.

Thanks to all, those are great ideas I will take on board! Some great tips, I will definitely look into a corner sofa, side tables, and put a dining table against the windows! Both great ideas to where to place the TV, plenty of food for thought! Thanks you for the diagram its really helped me understand the layout I can use :-) ! It definitely opens the room up. Thanks. again!

A layout like this may work too for the TV area Just imagine it reversed with the couch on the left. Just more to think about. Good luck!

Like Deco's and Madden's ideas. We have a 9'L x 5'6" sectional as you both have shown and love it in a space that is considerably smaller. We have a 12' w. x 24' L Living and dining space, furnished somewhat similar to what has been suggested here, and it works well. Happy Houzzing.
