Will the water from tub damage the wainscot in the long run? I have the same situation and hesitate to use wainscot .

    You can use boat quality paint specifically designed to be imperviable. We used it after we had similar issues. It's worked great for 15 yrs.

    We find an important consideration is the distance from the wall to the tub when the tub is free-standing like this. We suggest 4 - 6 inches.
