I know you love the Wolf range but would you consider a Thermador package? You get the d/w and hood free.

How are the cfm's? I am looking at prices on hoods also. My kitchen budget has gotten out of control, but it is important to me to have proper ventilation. I lived in a house where the cooking smells would linger for days on the 2nd floor. It drove me nuts.

I second feeny's comment on the Broan. We installed one over our 6 burner DCS range, and I don't know which I like better, stove or hood!

As I said in my comment above, the Broan hood we bought (which was the low profile, purchased four years ago--so you'll need to do your own research on the one that matches the style you want) is identical to the Wolf in both strength and style. So the cfm's are the same as the Wolf hood and very, very strong. I've never yet needed to put it on the strongest setting.

Here is a picture of a Tru Vent hood like what we just had installed in our kitchen renovation. We did a 30" one but this one is a 36". The second image is of a more modern style. I found a 36" on ebay for $349. I think we payed around $270 - $300 for ours.

It has six fan speeds, 3 light settings and auto on/off feature and easily removable filters to make cleaning less of a chore.
They're from a company called CMI out of Louisville, Kentucky which is about 30 minutes north of us. Looks like the air flow is 350 to 530. Don't know whether that's enough for you but when mine is on high it pulls really well.

Look into Faber Hoods, they were recommended by my appliance supplier, and he was right, they are good looking, work well, and are thousands (!) less than Broan..

It's hard to imagine how any hood could be "thousands (!) less than Broan" since even the professional strength Broan hoods like the one we bought are under $1,000.

The Broan was 2600 and the Faber was 600. The Island Chimney Hoods with extensions are expensive. Obviously we are not comparing apples and oranges. You sound offended.

Since you don't know the exact hood the OP is trying to reproduce, your sweeping generalization about pricing between the two companies is simply inaccurate. Our professional level, stainless steel Broan hood, identical to the one sold by Wolf, was less than $700, and is still listed for that price at Sears and Home Depot.

And your point is? Of course it is a generalization. The question was general, we don't know what the budget is. It's just a houzz discussion, maybe you need to take a break?

This is a comparable Best by Broan to what the poster is describing, even with the cheapest blower, it will be 2K.

Thanks for all your help! We've decided to go with a 42" Kobe Hood - CH0042SQB-1. It has 2 internal blowers with max CFM's of 1200 - which is perfect for my 6 burner wolf range. I ended up going with the larger size because the Kobe and the Broan 36" hood only had max 1 internal blower and 600 cfms. External or inline blowers were not an option for our project. The salesman recommended the 42" Kobe and I was surprised to find that when I looked at Houzz for "larger hoods" I actually liked the look of the oversized hood over the range more. Since I have upper cabinets on both sides of my range - the larger hood will create a larger cook space opening - and less risk of the smoke going up under my cabinets. Also - I like that the Kobe is made from 18 gauge steel (with no seams) which is closer to the higher quality 16 gauge Wolf hood and much better than the 22 gauge Kobe. Price point is also very good - I'm getting it (without the duct cover) for $1240 (as part of a much larger package).

Correction...better than the 22 gauge Broan (not Kobe)
