What a great idea, the perfect place to store your shoes

Outstanding!! Brilliant!! I want it!! Architecturally aesthetic design idea of the year, in my opinion... With so many people downsizing, "de-cluttering," eliminating walls in favor of an open-concept design and "just because," everybody everywhere needs every square inch of storage they can squeeze out of their home. If it takes up a footprint, I like it to provide convenient storage. As an example, I design my window-seats with touch-to-open, no-hardware drawers, instead of deep wells beneath the seat that eventually become a dark abyss filled with everything they forgot they had. I can foresee a serious caveat with this stair/riser drawer storage concept however: Safety! The drawers would need a mechanism to assure they don't pop open, causing people to fall down the stairs. Even a fraction of an inch could spell disaster. I'm assuming this has been addressed. If so, would you please explain how?

As it turns out, the draws get used just like your top cutlery draw in the kitchen, it always get closed as you need use the kitchen bench. To go upstairs you need to close the draw, so it gets closed straight away. They have a soft close mechanism so you can push it with your foot if you like and it won't slam. I have 2 small kids and never had a problem. Thanks for you kind words too ;)

How do the drawers keep from opening when using the stairs?

I have seen this used in steps to an upper bunk bed but not in regular stairs. I really like the idea conceptually, but, as another person noted, I am concerned about safety, especially when egressing in an emergency. I would suggest an auto-close mechanism and possibly an alarm if something blocked the closure.

My mind just blew up! Like this idea.

I also. It's a great concept and very workable logistically and aesthetically. I love this concept.

I've followed this post for awhile now and thought an auto-close rail set up would work well for safety and convenience also.
