Hi, I don't think it's hard at all at this level of darkness. I have received complaints when the floors are ebony black.

Do you know the color and type of wood this is? Hoping for a dark bamboo floor.

Lesley, I agree. I just installed dark bamboo floors and OMG they are hard to keep clean. I sweep every other day. But they are beautiful. I just haven't found a product to clean them with other than Bona...not a fan.

A swiffer should work well. We suggest our clients sweep once per week and then clean the floors every few months. There are several good cleaning kits available at HD.

We have dark floors and young children, and I would never do it again. Dust is not a problem for us - floors get vacuumed and mopped often. The problem is that every spec of food / debris shows, foots prints are constantly covering the floor, and it always looks dirty no matter how often I sweep / clean it. I would not ever recommend a Swiffer Wet Jet. I use Bona with good results.

I have dark wood like TILE on my first floor. It is difficult to keep clean. It looks nice only when there is no major light reflecting on the floor. I can't find the perfect product to help keep them clean either. I didn't know it would be this hard.

Obviously the architect does not have floors like this! Moved into a house with espresso maple floors. We have a cat, dog and three kids. Our old house had old fashioned oak floors. They showed nothing. These show every footpring, paw print and dust! Will not do it again!

I just moved into a house with Dark hardwood floors. They look great as others said so long as no sunlight is on them then you see EVERYTHING. They are SO much work. I used to be OCD about clean floors but I can't do it with these floors, even if I cleaned every 5 minutes they will still look dirty.

I have espresso bamboo floors and HOLY COW is it difficult to keep clean. I have spent hundreds of dollars on steam cleaners, swiffers, and dust mops. NOTHING works. It looks beautiful after the sun goes down and you cannot notice all the foot prints. I regret it. Should have just kept the maple hard wood I had before. Cleaned it and forgot about it until the following week. The best thing to do is clean it with a regular mop and a little floor cleaner when no one is home. Let it dry for a few hours before walking on it with socks. Even then you will still have imprints.

DONT DO IT!!! Immediately after cleaning my black flooring it looks amazing! 2 minutes later its a nightmare. Ive always wanted dark hardwood but its in NO way practical. Im stressed 15 hours a day trying to keep this floor clean. I sweep and mop every...single....day.

I got ehony floors put in and its the worst mistake I made redoing my house .....have to steam clean them everyday its crazy

Thank you so much for your honest responses regarding dark hardwood flooring. I am pining (oaking?) for this look in my old farmhouse, to replace carpeting. Sounds like I need to find medium tone wood flooring with texture.....wondering how dark/medium can I go before I am in trouble. Busy household, kids and dogs, work full time. I have dark stained oak hardwood floors and they are beautiful! Absolutely love them. The key is to use a satin finish, not a glossy finish. Mine are vacuumed once a week with a Dyson Pet vacuum ( yes, we have one cat) and damp mopped with Bono wood floor cleaner. Every two or three days, I quickly dust them with a large microfiber dust mop. No more, no less care than with a little lighter color floor demands.

It might depend on the wood product has well. I had Brazilian Redwood in my old house that we put down as prefinished. I feel like they didn't show as much dirty and dust as the dark reddish/brown Oak floors we have in our new place. I'm constantly sweeping and cleaning them.

It is best to get a distressed looking medium dark floor in a satin finish. Also make sure there are no grooves between the planks where dust can collect. When my boys were little I would see scratches and start to get upset until I realized they were original scratches! Took the stress away! Also, my favorite Christmas present was a Roomba! It leaves the docking station every day at 11am and returns at 12:00. It goes over all rugs and my floors haven't been cleaner. Worth every cent!

Don't do it! I insisted on dark bamboo and although beautiful it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean. I knew dust and dog hair would be an issue but it shows footprints and smudged immediately upon cleaning which I have to do twice a day and it still looks bad. It makes me crazy! NEVER AGAIN

Has anyone found a way to help minimize the footprints ?? They are killing me!!!! I have read articles suggesting a polyurethane coating. Any thoughts?

Oh, how I wish I had read this thread before I upgraded ($$) to dark, wide plank flooring. I thought, well, I like clean floors anyway so a quick vacuum everyday is no biggie. The debri and dust are definitely issues but it’s the footprints that are diabolical!! Clean feet make prints. Shoes make prints. So first you need to vacuum and then you need to mop. Everyday. The last thing I do before any gathering is vacuum and mop. Surprise company? Ack!! I really hate how much time I spend cleaning my floors or worrying about cleaning my floors. Not worth it!

I just finished my renovation last week. It was tough getting all the construction dust off, but now that they are clean, vacuuming is fine. I have no issue with footprints, but we don't wear shoes in the house. I did ask our contractor to go over it again with poly because it didn't feel as smooth as I wanted and once he did that the floors were much easier to clean. finish definitely makes a difference. You can definitely see a lot more when the floors are dirty versus my old floors which were a dark walnut. The darker the floor, the more you will see. I don't hate mine, but would probably go a little lighter next time. I have 50% ebony and 50% dark walnut.
