Weird space to design

Help! We are in the process of moving in ( please excuse the mess and boxes - the kids don't help;)) we have this sectional which faces the TV ( we are getting a bigger one and mounting it to the wall). Then we have this weird smaller space where I have put a yellow small cabinet and some trucks, the high point of the the vaulted ceiling is over on that side if the room. Also over there is a fort ( toy storage for the kids) so I can not totally block off that area. How do I make this room flow better?? Should I get rid of the striped chair and get some smaller ones and make it a seating area in the corner or just make a kid toy area? Help and thank you.

-- This is coming in late - perhaps after the fact, but here is another take.

Keep the kids close by, Develop the toy corner to make better use of the space. Turn the sectional so that the back of it runs along the toy area and the "L" across the dining area. The back of the sectional by the toy area defines that space and holds toys in there.

Think about going UP with toy storage by installing book cases on the 2 walls in the play space. You can always use more as the kids grow and their interests change. The bottom part of the cases can be closed storage to reign in clutter.

for the time being, i would make it a kid toy area.

then when the kids are older and more able to keep their toys in their own rooms, i would get a couple small chairs and make it a little sitting area.

Move the sectional so you're not blocking the door. Better to block toy area.

I like the suggestions. Make the corner a toy area. I would get rid of the striped chair. I would face the sectional open to the windows. Turn 180 degrees, so the one back is to the toy area, other towards dining room.
You could paint the kids corner with chalkboard paint to give it more character, line it up with that pony wall. That way it looks like it is a corner with a purpose and you are not just banning your kids there. Or hang some kids worthy artwork that would be pleasing to the rest of the room.

Start with the ceiling. Add a surface to it. The floor plan will be secondary.

I think these are nice ideas. I agree with flipping the sectional to not close off the slider. Since you are mounting the TV on the wall, put it on a swivel arm closer to the corner, and how about putting the back of the sectional against the TV wall, leaving 4' (?) for the toy area, with the other leg of the sectional coming out toward the dining? The space may be tight, given the size of your entertainment center, but that can shift closer to the outside corner, and then the chair could be "floated" in the space btw. the open leg of the sectional and the slider. I may be off a bit on my dims., so verify with a couple measurements before attempting. Happy Houzzing.
