I'm remodeling my kitchen and am having such a tough time deciding on a backsplash. My new maple shaker-style cabinets have a dark espresso color and oversized nickel bar pulls. My quartz countertops will be Caesarstone Buttermilk which is a solid tan color. New appliances are all stainless steel. Floor is oversized porcelain tile in a solid bone/tan color. Basically, my home is modern/contemporary/ minimalistic in design. I like clean lines, simple finishes, and minimal grout lines. I finally decided on 2" x 16" glass subway tile, and I FINALLY was able to find a color that didn't appear too dark brown, grayish, or green in color. Now I just need to choose from the glossy or matte finish. The fourth wall in my kitchen is made up entirely of a huge window that lets in a lot of bright sunlight. I like the look of the glossy tile, but do you think the glare from the sun will be too much? It's so hard to tell how it will look from just one little sample piece - it may be too shiny once the whole backsplash is installed. The matte finish is really pretty too, but I'm afraid it might be to "dull " Should I mix the glossy and matte in a subway (staggered) pattern? Which finish is easier to clean and will show less water spots or splashes? Any suggestions/advice would be so greatly appreciated.
