I plan to tile up to the bottom of the cabinets on the other areas. So, you (studio 47) are suggesting a stripe up high without borders at the top above the window trim all the way to the crown moulding? I considered doing that whole wall but would have an awkward area between the crown and the window trim of only 4 inches tall creating a long strip of focus. also, the area to the left and above the door would have to have no border and would stop abruptly.

Not sure why you need a border. Is the tile that bad? Can you post a photo?

Actually I was envisioning the tile turning up the wall only as wide as the shelving, seeing the tile at the back of the shelving. In a sense the inside face of vertical shelving panels becomes your termination for the tile. Unless you are thinking of open ended shelving. We are both probably seeing differing mental images. If you don't mind, can post or send me an elevation of that wall? I would be happy to do a quick sketch of what I'm thinking.

Another option is to tile across the right side of the sink at the same level as the left hand side.

Yes Studio 47 the tile is very rough terra cotta, but beautiful with lots of texture and light blue glaze that I hope flows with the lake in the window. I am thinking open shelving with corbels but butted against window trim on both sides. You are so kind to offer a drawing. This area has evolved and changed so I don't have an elevation drawing other than the cabinet drawing already attached above. This latest photo has more of the scene by photo. I can however visualize what you have in mind, I think. I'm also going to have to go down to the floor baseboard too at the right of the lower cabinet with a strip of tile.

Would a rough edge be so bad? You're on a lake, out in the country, a bit rustic. It might be fitting. What kind of wood are the cabinets and style? If you haven't ordered them yet you can extend it to the door trim and eliminate the need for a strip down to the baseboard.

Yes I think rough edge will be fine. You are so kind to weigh in and hold my hand as I order the tile. the white shaker cabinets are on their way and hopefully do come to the door frame, the measurements looks really close. Thanks again!
