Interior wood staining

No matter how good the wood, if it is new and you are going to stain it with a dark color, make sure you condition the wood first. Wood grown today is not like the wood used in the 50's. It is grown fast for production and does not absorb stain evenly. In particular, I am speaking of the softer pine woods. Never apply a dark stain directly to the wood without first applying the conditioner. Follow the manufacturers directions of the conditioner as dry time and work window time are essential.
