Stone Work

Can anyone tell if the stone work on the fireplace sits proud of the wood surround or if it is flush? I can't quite make it out.

The Millwork is proud of the stone. The stone went in first and then we "wrapped the mantel/millwork.

Thank you; that's really helpful. The fireplace is really lovely. I am showing it to my mason and carpenter to give them the idea of what I like and starting the hunt for the stone. If you would be willing to share the name of the stone or where it was purchased, I would be so thankful.
