Here are a few in a dark or bronze finish, love the carriage lanterns, but again, they would have to be mounted just a bit higher than you'd normally put island pendants, so they aren't shining in people's eyes :)

Yeah I think not for you. But truly the cat mountain is the way to go. You need color so take it slow and you will end up with a great space. Accessories are fun and can be changed out from time to time, just a few and love everything you add. A room done with love never goes wrong.

Keep it simple and clean lines. Black rod and a chrome base. Ck Restoration Hardware for great looks. Then do bar stools in same look.

Way too matchy matchy , this room cries out for some color and pizazz, get gutsy with accessories first and then branch out.

I went to look at the info under the "Cat Mountain" picture. It doesn't say where the lights are from but the interior designer was Glynis Wood and I see she has a website with contact info, so maybe you could find out.

With the lovely white cabinets, I can picture either a Cobalt Blue or Cranberry Red Swirl. If they are mini pendants, go with 3, or medium size 2 or one large one in the middle.

It will depend a little on what kind of fabric and if pleated drapes or just cutains on a rod. I like drapery to be full so normally allow for double fullness in which case you would need 12 yards.

If you like the glass look without the glare of a bare bulb, The Cassandra pendants might be an option: They also come in red. blue, yellow and white. Definitely go with three with this size pendant. Your island can handle it :)

What would you like to say?building a new craftsman style house. Wondering if light fixtures & door hardware need to be the same look. ie: rubbed bronze, or brushed nickel etc.

Whispar Design mentioned a major factor that others have not mentioned and why I haven't added other comments until now.

The function of lighting is first to provide light where it is needed. Second is to make sure it doesn't produce glare that obscures other parts of the view by shutting down eye's ability to see other qualities in the room or to impede the tasks at hand.

The design you select needs to provide light on the island for whatever tasks you want to preform there and at the same time shield the eve from the source of the light. Consider the standing eye level from the entrance to the room and the seated eye level at the island to determine the fixtures qualities Make sure that the fixture's shade shields the eye from the source of the lamp or is translucent enough to diffuse the source to a comfortable level. Clear glass allows the eye to see the light source and unless it is a low wattage and or coated lamp you will get glare. Small high wattage halogen lamps produce a relative small hot spot but a lot of glare as do high wattage exposed filament incandescent lamps.

Easiest functional solution is to select a fixture with an opaque shade the cuts off view of the light source or a shade that diffuses the light source from both a standing and a seated eye level.

Technical and functional issues aside the style and shape of the fixtures are a matter of choice but all should be tested against the above. Function and comfort can be achieved at a high level of design without just being a decoration in the room.

About Color: A color translucent shade can do the job as can an opaques shade. However I suggest you consider the cost of replacing three pendant fixtures when the color goes out of vogue or you tire of it. I tend to think of color as an accessory, art and or paint. Things that can moved around to other places or easily and inexpensively be changed or replaced. Architectural finishes, Furniture and Fixtures I think of as more permanent. Now I have had clients that think expense is not a consideration.

What am I, chopped liver? I talked about exactly that issue. :)

I actually have very inexpensive pendant lights from Lowe's ... currently, red ones. I have changed the color 2x in the last 2 years ... replacement pendants in various colors are $12 and I love them! Once you have their cords in place, the pendant glass is easy to change.

These are found within Lowe's ... where the display is that you put the glass pendant on a light bulb, and it shows what color the glass is when light is on.

The pendants are unique. You have some nice contrasts going on with light and dark too.

Either one would look nice Gina. The chestnut has more of a warm color to it where as the cappuccino chocolate is on the cool side. What color are your walls and counters going to be? You might want to think of all 3 at the same time.

Is the chestnut the upper left cabinet?

makchick, yes the chestnut ebony glaze is the one in the back and the cappuccino choc. Is small in front.
