I agree with your thought about gray--it would continue the color from the backsplash and not look like such a stopping point. The stainless appliances would also coordinate with gray walls. I'd do something about that big white door. Perhaps you could replace it with a door with more interest. It's so flat, so white--becomes a feature. Even painting the current door the wall color would help for now. But if the wall is eggshell, make the door a gloss or high gloss. Congratulations on your new home!

Thanks, the door is the entrance to the apartment and we can't change it without dealing with the condo association. Painting it the wall color wouldn't be a bad idea though.
