Just purchased new chandelier. Love it but hung it at 36.5" from table bc it came w rods and had we used other rod it wld have hung at only 27". No other choice. Ceiling is 8' What can i purchase for table decor to balance out hgt of fixture? My old candlesticks r on table which r obviously too short. Cld i use taller candles?? What can I buy for center of table for proper scale? Photos wld b gr8!! Btw: one of ur designers gave me the idea to puchase linear and I love it so THANK YOU!!!

@abbyjean. I agree a nice piece of art would look better than a mirror IMHO. I was hoping Groveraxle would hang some art there. :)

rtapp, do you have a piece of art to just try there in case grover does not come back?
Would also love to see that nice big plant behind the couch be raised a bit to fill in that wall area instead of peeking over the top of the back of the couch. Would you have something to put it on at all?
Not crazy about mirrors anywhere, but I think a round one would look better in this space. Of course, my druthers would be a big piece of art.
    Thanks Groveraxle! You're the best!
What a change in the room! Thanks for coming back! Were your ears ringing?
Nah, no ringing ears. I think you must have been sending telepathic messages while I was busy Photoshopping. ;-)

Attachng artwork. First is adjacent to mirror wall, second hung over piano, third in guest room. Can i hang paintings on adjacent walls???? sorry theyre dark. It's 5:48a!! Thx!!!
Oh - u said ARTWORK - not necessarily paintings! So perhaps some type of wall sculpture? Can i ask one more opinion re the attached pic of my old beveled glass coffee table? Old as in BRASS cube. Ugh!! Had an idea and bought bronze rustoleum spray to cover it? Good idea or really, really bad? thx!!

I am only seeing one picture of art work that you posted with your eyes shut! LOL Waaay tooo early, huh? Not a problem having more than one piece of art in a room.

I love the idea of using that spray to cover the cube. It will update it instantly and is easy to use. We did it on our fireplace surround.....same brass that had to go......and are happy with the results.....and the price!

rtapp, you can hang paintings anywhere--on adjacent walls, next to each other, all the way around the room. It just means finding the right balance for the space. I love your art over the buffet. Is it a Rosina Wachtmeister print? But it needs to be lower. Cut the space between the buffet and the bottom of the frame by half.

Re: coffee table. I don't know that painting the cube is a bad idea, but I'd like to see the whole room to recommend. That said, the glass is great, so you could use anything you like for a base that is flat and the right height. Maybe think outside the box (or cube) here. You might decoupage the cube or cover it with wallpaper, or ditch it in favor of base made of plumbing pipe or an antique crate or a metal sculpture. Let your imagination run on this one.

Thank u all! Ill try again to attach the other "art." Im out of state now which is why the pix were taken so early in the am bf I left. Dont recall artist over pine side table - will get back to u on that next wk when im home. If attachments r too dark will retake next week. First is hung over my prof studio piano a/k/a "upright" and 2nd is a Pena (southwestern artist I love) in the guest room. Also have a SW scene in another bdrm that I forgot about.
And let me say you guys r great!! I get a kick out of ur camaraderie w one another!!! I can't begin to xpress how thrilled I am w ur ideas! Bet u can't tell I have NO background in art or interior design (yeah right - no clues at all). Lol! But don't think it's easy either to find decor for my Swestern leanings living in a small town in CT!!! Didnt know WHAT my taste was until I visited Santa Fe and a light went on!!
Thx again to all of u. All the best in 2014!!!
rtapp, you and I are simpàtico when it comes to art. I had a house full of Pena's till I moved to a Craftsman bungalow. When I was looking for a centerpiece for your table, I almost used a stone metate. Now I see it would have been totally appropriate. You're doing a great job. Happy new year!

Abbyjean- don't know how I missed ur comment about the plant behind the sofa. Gr8 idea!!! I knew there was something off. U nailed it and I'll take care of it. Thx!!

Big suprise - I have another question. Our town house is old and there's a unit under us. I have to recarpet the dining room/living room. I only like carpeting in bedrooms but because there's someone residing under us and for other reasons, we have to carpet. Because im not a carpet person - I would have preferred hardwood - have been having difficulty finding something. We are going to repaint walls a warm tan and I'd like something organic looking on the floor. Problem is that the carpeting I gravitate to feel like sandpaper under foot. I prefer going barefoot whn we don't have company so this is an issue. HELP!!! Ive also though of eventually throwing an area down in the living room to add interest/color. Thanks!!!!!
Anyone? Anyone? I know carpeting isn't everyone's fave topic but I really do need the help. THX!!!!

Jumping in without reading all the comments, which is always a danger (but have little more Christmas shopping to do!). Ditto Abbyjean about the mirror. That is what jumped out at me.

Thought to tell you to try to hang it vertically, but the comment about diners staring at the back of someone's head! Nix that! So, how about a textile? Something southwestern?

rtapp, I would do hardwood with a big cushy area rug and go barefoot as much as possible.

I can't really help you if you're determined to carpet; ripped mine out when I bought my house 25 years ago and never looked back.

Pcmom1: good sugg re textile! Thx!
Groverdale: i am not DETERMINED to install carpetng- I have no choice beg with the condo bylaws. I did mention that there were several
reasons for carpeting and none included my preference. This is why the old carpeting is still down. I had to come to terms w the fact that hardwood at my current residence is not doable. Hopefully someone else out there can guide me. I told u carpeting is an unpleasant topic. Thx!
And to b clear, i have no problem finding a nice area rug to throw over the new carpeting I must install. Just need help selecting the type of carpeting. Thx!!!

Is berber an option for you at all? We do have that in part of our home and love the low maintenance of it. I think it would also work to layer a rug over it, too. Comes in lots of colors, too, and would still feel ok without shoes and socks on.

If it's possible to find a berber that isnt rough underfoot, that's what I'll look for! U r a doll!! Thank u so much!!!!!

Consider a wool sisal-look - softer than the real deal.

Ill chk that out, too!! Thank you so much! That will b ez 2 keep clean, I'm assuming? No pets or little ones but our living room IS our living room! Thank you!!!

Back to dining room table- found the attached bowl on line for $48. Would this work? Saw gorgeous ones elsewhere for much more $. Thx!!!
That looks like a great bowl. Very rustic. Is it antique? In any case, it looks pretty perfect from here.

Well ... Look who's back from the carpeting fiasco. LOL!!!!! Thought u were done w me!! Thx really, tho! Appreciate ur input!
And looks like you found a smokin' deal on the price! GET IT! Merry Christmas to YOU!
    Thx Abbyjean! I will!!
Groveraxle- u were correct. Rosina Wachtmeister print in dining room! Ur pretty sharp! But, of course u r- u like Pena!
Hi happyasaclaim- thx for weighing in w ur likes. Do u have anything to add? HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Just checked description of bowl (what took me so long?) It's made of resin. Ewww. And the search continues ...
How's this? It's wood and $64. Would it work or too blah? Not spending $250+ for a bowl which all the gorgeous ones are but don't want to place any old thing on my table. Thx!!!
    Or this? ($89). Thx!!
I like both the bowls above. I also like the ones below. First two are from Wayfair, third is from Pier 1.

Appreciate ur researching these for me - really do - however, the items u forwarded are not primitive enough for me. Still "friends," I hope!
    $49.50.
    Doesnt give dimensions.
The long narrow dough bowl was what I was going to suggest. It is exactly what I have on my table. Paid $40. Grab the $48 one. I change out the contents with the seasons. Even add a couple of wine glasses with small candles into the center of the bowl if I want a special dinner and closer candlelight. It is very versatile. You won't regret it. And I agree with the mirror. World Market has great artwork and textiles. Good luck.

I like either of the first two you posted today. Think it depends on your idea for what you want to put in it........the sides are so different on them and so is the wood tone, so you need to decide on the use maybe? The third one you found.....vintage tray.....is nice, but is it primitive enough?

Thx Abbyjean! I liked the look of the resin one I sent yesterday but isnt resin yucky (my sophisticated interior design description)? I do appreciate that u liked the other two. Im also going to climb into my closet whn i get home to see what serving pcs I have and might have forgotten about. Have a gr8 day!
Debbie - have been checking out World Market. Luv it. Thx!!!

I am just not sure about the resin concern. It does not LOOK resin, or what I have pictured in my mind for items made from it. I have bought a few decorations for my YOUNG granddaughter that contain it as they do not break the same way glass items break. But this piece.....it must be a part of it. Is there a concern with food items put in it then? Maybe I am confused with another ingredient, and hopefully someone who knows MORE, which is easy from my stand point, will chime in.
