Proper window treatments should be lined. You can use dropcloths if you wish, but...

If you don't, sunlight will "eat" your bargain fabric in pretty short order. If you don't, you will only diffuse sunlight intrusion. If you don't, there will be no real insulation provided. If you don't, there will be no real privacy provided by your "bargain window treatment".

I'm not saying, "don't". What I am saying is, don't fool yourself into thinking you'll be getting the benefits of properly constructed window treatments. I understand well the price of window treatments! cheap is cheap... don't expect mock turtle soup to be the same as the real thing!
