I would pull the chairs in a little tighter by the table in front of the window and take away the floor lamp that is there. See if that makes room for a nice green plant in that corner instead. Then I would make a fire, pour myself a drink and enjoy the beautiful space created here!!!

A few pops of color would be pretty; maybe a throw or pillows. Everything looks very neutral. Nice room!

A coffee table in front of the couch...something with texture

You have nice pieces. The room needs a little perk; some drama , something a little eye catching or unpredictable.
The arrangement appears a little tight and the pieces are filling up all the space.
First I would pull the rug away from the fireplace a foot or so ( I can't see how much room you have behind sofa ).
I would then pull the sofa back as well.
Take the brown chair and move it closer to the sofa ( like an L configuration).
You could also consider moving the sofa a little to the right ( not centered dead on in front of fireplace ).
That would create space to have 2 chairs and a table between in front of the windows, without being too tight.
Just don't fill everything in around the room creating a visual circle with no breaks ( chair - space- table - space - sofa - space- table - space, etc. ) the pole lamp in the corner should have a relationship to the chair for example, not be evenly distanced lamp - chair - table.
The round table with traditional lamp, picture, gold chair, is dated in feeling.
If your budget allows, either change the chair or table( the two together are not current .
) maybe go for updated tables in the room.
Something to draw the eye around the room will add spark - a dose of stronger color by the table in front of the windows (like a lamp Or the table Or something on the table, a throw or pillow on sofa, etc.
Your eye should see everything in the room by moving around the room.
Draw the eye with color AND some empty spaces.

I would add some cool architectural piece above the windows for some drama..and some pillows in a tonal pattern but colorful..teal...smokey blue... And a coffee table. Pull things back from the fireplace a bit and open up the seating..some living plants would be great.

the height of the television is wrong for best viewing; I see neck strain in your future.. Don't know what to suggest otherwise. How about drawing some attention to the ceiling and warmth to the room by painting the ceiling in a darker shade?

Beautiful room! I agree that the ceiling could use something- either an interesting chandelier to hang or a splash of paint.

Needs plants

I think the room is lovely but I agree with other comments about the light fixture instead of ceiling fan. I think a simple black wrought iron pendant would tie the drapery rods and fireplace screen back in and help anchor the eye! Perhaps one like this: http://houzz.com/photos/640070

I would hang it so the bottom sits just above the top of the TV.

Also, a coffee table with a little sparkle would go a long way - maybe glass with an antiqued gold metal frame so you can still see the gorgeous rug?

Richly colored curtains

Some color, pillows, real flowers, plants, a colorful book on the table. A little will go a long way. A nice room!

The TV is too high above the FP for comfortable watching. I'd put it above or on a low credenza opposite the FP. Hang the art above the FP. Turn the rug and move the sofa perpendicular to the FP facing the window. If the pair of arm chairs are not swivels, have a swivel base put on them and place them opposite the FP - they can turn to FP, sofa, and TV. Place the tub chair left of the FP with the floor lamp. Replace your end tables. This chart might help you get table/lamp heights right.

I think you have a great room. I would consider adding a coffee table and some pops of color.

HI -- The ceiling needs a color close to the tone of the floor or continue the wall color onto the ceiling to warm the room up . Visually the room reads too pale and lacks some texture and contrasts. I would even add some beams ( dark weathered wood ) to the ceiling . Wood window blinds also the tone of the floor . And some hits of accent colors for personality. Paint the door black . Rooms need interest and some character . Your is almost there. --If this was my room I think I would paint the whole room and ceiling one color and then add some dark beams and dark wood window blinds with the drapes and paint the front door black in a satin finish .

I would change the carpet! Something with more color, so that it pop's

I would run crown molding along the wall and ceiling joint then straight agross the wall above the doors at the same level as the side connecting them. Then I. Would paint tne wall peak above the crown molding the same color as the ceiling. This would kinda break the expanse of that huge wall with the doors. I feel that looking at the room the high wall draws your attention there and gives an empty feel and therefore makes it look as though something is missing.

I would put the couch in front of the window, on one side, the tall lamp, the other side the end table with lamp. I would move the two chairs facing the couch with the other end table in between. I would put a mirror over the console by the door and move the tv if possible.

Very pretty room but it lacks any patterns or textures. The wall color is not repeated in anything else so it serves merely as a neutral backdrop without reinforcing itself as a design element. I would put patterned curtains that picked up the wall color as well as a glass coffee table wit something on it that repeats the wall color.

I would paint the room a rich Carmel, it looks like mint green to me. It would make room pop,

Your area is close together in a large room. It makes it look like you have a lot of space around it. Try opening the sitting area up a little but. You could also try putting something above the curtains. Shelf maybe. Just for decorations

Also try a coffee table and some color. Throw pillows, accent wall, maybe quotes

beautiful room, great color, great floor, great everything! I would put in a big coffee table and a few colorful or textural throw pillows. Also, I think some candles or a plant around the bottom of the fireplace would look great and cozy.

Here is what's needed:

(1) "bringing down" the ceiling by using the same (as ceiling) paint on the wall above windows
(2) moving TV to console across from fireplace and flanking FP with sofa and chairs to open up the space and make it more welcoming. Add coffee table with wrought iron scroll design with glass on top.
(3) bringing out carpet dyes as design element. You can use coordinating art, pillows, throws and lampshades to achieve cohesive look. Slightly darker shades than those on the carpet will be fine.
