It would look good with a new wall color. Redo the island so the wood matches the countertop. I like the cabinets. If anything stain them. A different sink possibly.

Install a tile splash on the walls above the counter and take it all the way up to the underside of the cabinets and the stove wall....

Replace the island with a new one..........See Pottery Barn or another kitchen supplier. You can buy an island ready to install and it doesn't have to match the rest of the kitchen. In fact it is quite popular now to have a contrasting island.

Can you replace your counter tops? Are they laminate or stone now? If they are laminate, consider replacing them with a stone material.

Is the flooring cracked ? It looks like it in the photo but I am not sure .... Can you replace the cracked tiles? Do you have matching extras?

Are the cabinets real wood or laminate. If they are wood, you might want to paint them white or a color such as sage green....Or you might want to replace the upper cabinets with taller ones that go to the ceiling............

Consider adding two pendant lights over the island...........Look at photos in houzz for spacing and height ideas...

Also, you might want to add a few recessed can lights in the kitchen and some lights under the cabinets............

    Good luck.........

HI -- Are you talking major changes or just cosmetic ??? Are those cracks in the floor tiles or just moving in marks ?
That odd spindly island really needs to go and does the lay out work for you ? Lots of potential here -- bonus on the walk in-pantry ! And the appliances look great - can't see the fridge -- can you show us the other wall where I assume the fridge is ?

You have a real nice kitchen with good positioned cabinets and appliances. I see a lot of possibilities depending on your budget an style.
*Paint the left wall, give it a warm colour. Use that colour also in some accesoires
*Put other grips on your cabinets
*In my opinion two cabinets disturb the balance in your kitchen: the open cabinet totally left above the countertop. The lowershelf stretches out too much. The other one is the island cabinet. It's too narrow for its countertop. It looks like it will tumble down. I would look for a bigger cabinet, not remove the island.
    * A darker countertop will indeed bring more life to your kitchen. Ganite is not cheap but will give your kitchen an exclusive look. The examples 1 Week Kitchen gives you are great
    * Do you really need a backsplash? We are fanatic cooks and only have a backsplash of stainless steel behind the gaspits, all the way up to the hood. The rest of the wall we have painted with waterresistant wallpaint. If you do this, you don't have to worry anymore about the space between the uppercabinets and the window. You can also hang up one or two shelves here made from the same material as the cabinets
    * And of course, you can spay your cabinets.

Like lefty47 wonders, what's on the other wall?

My first question would be: what do you mean by change? If I were approached to make this a budget friendly uplevel....I would
    1. do as Lampert Dias Architects suggests and replace the island with something more furniture like and more functional.
    2. Definately change the backsplash from the floor tile to a wall tile more suited to a kitchen. Style would depend on what is happening in the rest of the space, but a staggered linear tile would look great.
    3. Nothing wrong with the perimeter cabinets (unless your reason for change is that you want a more traditional style but I'm assuming your request is just to freshen up the look)
    4. Countertop: if the budget allows stone (natural or engineered) is always a good way to uplevel a kitchen although the price tag for that change is a huge chunk of the kitchen budget. Otherwise pick a wall colour that is in a similar colour family to the counterop.
    5. Wall colour: the wall colour is on the yellow side right now. The cabinets are warm, the countertops are cooler and more towards the gray tones. I would either go with gray or a colour more towards the redder undertones.

Where did you get your sink? Does it really drain from the drainboard? I had a sink like this as a kid and always liked it.

Agreeing with Dytecture on needing more info. Wonderful kitchen to work on though, it's like a blank canvas and i'm excited to see it once it's fully furnished :)
