I realize that. It seems like every picture I like of a white kitchen has marble. I don't see as much quartzite being used. I love the look of marble. I just wonder if people who have it regret it.

I was having the same dilemma and was advised to have the marble honed which would need to be redone in five years. I did like some quartzite though. Did you see Taj Mahal?

We selected a light grey and white granite because we loved the look of marble, as well, but the lack of durability with marble made it a poor candidate for us. There are some really amazing granites and quartzites. The scale of hardness (moh scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the hardest) for most granites is 6-6.5 and quartzites average a 7. There is a quartzite called "super white" that looks very much like carrara marble but as Main Line Kitchen Design said it is more susceptible to etching than granite.

Thank you. I'll check out all the options. I really love the look of the marble, but we do cook a fair amount and use vinegar, lemon and red wine.

I have quartz in my kitchen and I love it. It gives off great shine, it is easy to clean and the best part.. it is maintenance free !
In my option granite and marble are too busy I don't like the look.

Goo

Thank you. I believe quartz and quartzite are two different materials aren't they?

I helped do salvage on a home that had been totally redone in the mid 1990s. The kitchen marble had three areas where large corner chunks were broken off. The leading edge to the sink was chipped all along the sink, and there were stains all over the place from what looked like plants and wine glasses. Evaluate how your kitchen will be used and by whom. Marble strikes me as NOT family friendly or heavy duty.

I'm confused. I thought that quartzite was the most durable, followed by granite, followed by marble, etc. I have never heard that quartz is more susceptible to etching than granite. Is that correct? We have four children ages 6, 5, 3, and 3. I currently have Cambria Torquay selected for our kitchen counters in our build, but this thread has me wondering if I haven't done enough research on the most durable (read: kid friendly) option. Please help!
