Since the ceiling is already textured and the ceiling does not seem to be really high, I'd go with the paint. I like the contrast it would add.

Cut foam board to the size you bed, paint it, then pop it back there. You can change it out with holidays, seasons, different displays, etc.

smartin1 has a great idea. You could even stencil a design to mimic wallpaper on the foam board or poster board. Wallpaper usually comes in double rolls so you would have a lot left over.

I would mirror the back of those upper cabinets to add some shine and depth and to compliment the shine in the backsplash tiles.

Love your backsplash. Please share the name etc. I'm doing a neutral look like you have and for what its worth I will probably paint the inside of my upper glass cainets the pale blue of the wall color. There isn't going to be much wall space in our kitchen making it very easy to change the coor at will.

There's enough and then there's too much. Don't over-think or over-do this area. From your pictures I think you're on the right track.

Rather then paint - I think I would try low wattage lighting - so the upper cabinets would cast a soft glow on the kitchen at night

I already painted the inside of one of the glass doored cabinets antique white. But, I am placing a beadboard panel in the back and having the shelves that will hold it in. So anytime I wish, I can just unload the cabinet, take out the shelves, then pull out the beadboard panel and spray paint it outside to get that smooth finish with another color from my kitchen, like the light gold of the one opposite wall, or the island color which is SW sea salt.

What about adding a stainless steel strip to cover the back? There are already enough distractions and competing colors. You could simply cut down a dishwasher insert or even use plain metal tiles. A mirrored back would also be nice.

Yes, my vote is to paint the interior of those cabinets. I did it in our kitchen in Seattle and it made items on the shelves stand out so much more. Now I'm in St. Petersburg, FL and did it again in the spare room (no open shelves in kitchen at this time) and have gotten compliments on the results.

I think it is lovely now and would be lovely with the celery. I wouldn't agree if you had picked a brighter color, but the celery is so subtle that I think it will look nice without drawing too much attention.

I had the same issue. So I got skins that could be easily inserts. Much easier to change out without a permanent commitment.

Use foam board. Cut it and paint to suit you. Easier to change out if you don't like it.

I Love the foam board idea - I was going to say to just paint the back of the cabinet not the sides - but factory manufactured cabinets have a special varnish on them so by using colored paper or the foam board idea you not tampering with the finish but you get your color.

Yes. Yes. Paint the interior I would do one shade darker than your celery green use an eggshell finish - paint the all four sides of the cabinet . I love the unexpected. . . the accent color paint will give you that well thought out finish detail.

Paint is easy enough to change up. Try it and see if you like it.

Yes yes yes paint them a different color! It looks great, we did green in the kitchen and the cabinets with windows are a very pale light blue/gray, and in the study muted green walls with a brighter green inside the book shelves. Looks awesome!!!

I'm not so sure how foamboard will hold the paint. some foamboard has a sheen to it. The foamboard I use to frame my artwork I sell doesn't have a sheen but has a bit of a texture. So I'm wondering which would work better.
Since I bought a beadboard panel, I wanted to find the exact size of panel that would slide into the cabinet correctly since I have a style down the center. Turns out the exact dimensions of the inside of the back of the cabinet was slightly too large by about 1/8" So when I cut the foamboard 1/8" less, it slid into the cabinet no problem and I now had a template to either try a paint color, or use it to cut down our beadboard panels. :)

Find wallpaper or wrapping paper with the color you like. Use double sided tape to adhere it to the back of the cabinet. It's cheap, easy and takes minutes to replace. If you're not up close it looks like stenciling.

If the vases and such that are in the upper cabinets are the ones that will be displayed there, I would say no....there seems to be enough going on with color and texture as it is, in addition to the rough wood ceiling... Lovely tile choice and I like the celery green on the wainscott wall....but not for inside of the cabinets I don't think

Wow, thanks so much for you replies and advice y'all! The tile is Mother of Pearl Shell mosaic from tilecircle.com. $16.99 Sq ft. I think it's gone up a dollar in price though. I got Free shipping at the time. I used white grout from Lowes. We will be sealing it 511 Sealer.
We built our cabinets, so the finish is not a problem. I'm gonna go ahead w a coat of that paint as soon as I can get it matched! I'll post pics when I've got one done :)

But, I might use a dummy surface first to see if I like it. Thanks for the ideas!

Any color will look its' best with proper lighting = use LED light tape on the back of the face frame. I just buy it in rolls direct from China on Ebay, along with the plug in power source. Remember you want the little yellow squares as these light emitting diodes. You can do the whole light box for less than $50 in material.

You could buy sheets of scrap booking paper and put them in the back to see the effect less permanently. If you paint the back too dark I would be afraid it would draw the eye up too much.

A pop of color in the back would be fabulous!!! Great idea to add some personal flair!!

Since they're brand new I wouldn't recommend paint. Have your carpenter cut 1/8" lauan to size and paint that instead. That way you can change it out as you please. Green is pretty- I could see a silver like you have in the backsplash as well, painted in a strie style.

My carpenter is my husband! We are doing all of the work ourselves. Except for the quartz. Here's a before shot!

@Katy R: Try painting them... if you don't like it you can easily change it back to white. I like the green. We have seem more and more clients doing this. Best of luck:)

I still recommend a backer board because you'll never get that finish to match again. Paint, paper, fabric- it will take anything. Some nice LED lighting, too.

I agree with a trial run first with contact paper or painted paper taped in place.

Just coming back here three years after we finished. I never did paint them a different color. I love the way they are as is. Overthinking, that is one of my design dilemmas!
