Do you have any photos or a floor plan of the kitchen?

Here is a picture of the layout. What I would really like to do is expand the cabinets and then tie it into banquette seating also on the right side of this photo on the left of the fireplace I would like to add cabinets as well.

I would lose the door. Depending on what you need/want, you could add a peninsula to eat at, tall pantry, just a couple extra feet of storage and prep area, a nice little desk area.
This kitchen has a very similar layout, and they eliminated the door.

You are like spot on, that kitchen is almost identical layout as mine. Thank you for sending the information, at first I was really confused why the comment was coming from Ashley D as I am also Ashley D :)

Tape the door shut, shove a table or a kitchen cart in front of it, and see how you cope? If you find you don't miss it, I'd say go for it, and take advantage of the extra space! We re-jigged an old space for a new kitchen, and a door from kitchen outside was nixed fairly early on when I realized that we were duplicating the access via a French door almost immediately next door, and we don't miss it. Don't miss the wintery drafts straight into the kitchen, either!

Bubblyjock - I know that it wont work right now to block the door because our french doors in the other room are duct taped shut. I would love to get rid of the draft trust me! We only have base board heat in one part of the room and its on the other side of the door which means the kitchen is always cold unless the oven is on - PS in Chicago right now where its -20s with windchill :)

lol - brrrrr, eh! We're in Canada, where it's even worse, ugh. Thank goodness for duct tape - our big old front door is taped shut - ain't beautiful, but at least the cats don't get blown away as they stalk across the hall! Did you tape the doors on the outside as well? I found that really helped.

Just want to clarify. In the link I posted, the window/door there was covered up, and cabinets were placed in front. In the before pictures, the door/window is right beside the dishwasher, in the after picture, there are cabinets beside.
