The cabinets need to be painted or stained much darker. What about a stone pebble floor and aqua walls? I love aqua in bathrooms and dark wood and aqua is stunning together. Light wood too for that matter. Can you resurface the cabinets with a different style door? Those cabinets are not tropical in color or shape.

Aqua sounds great,, but I'm on a strict budget right now, so the cabinets must stay. Maybe some new hardware for now. What about those closet doors..They really stick out more than the cabinets..any suggestions for that? Much appreciate your thoughts.

Add a floating shelf (or maybe two) on wall instead of ironwork, and then artwork above. A large piece so it resembles looking out a window. You could paint the cabinets a sand color, and leave doors off and have open shelves with wicker baskets. Paint the walls a very light blue. Keep the color scheme sand, blue and white. Add some plants and fluffy towels and enjoy!

The cabinets could be painted white. Are you into DIY? It's not expensive, but it takes time and preparation. For immediate changes, how about replacing the pulls? That would liven it up!

That's whats great about Houzz. So much inspiration here. It would be very spa like.

On a budget, I would paint the walls a pretty tropical aqua blue, then frame the standard mirrors with glass tiles. Serene art above the tub and live plants on the vanities. Small ferns look great and last. Framed mirrors inspiration:

Hi your bathroom is beautiful but I would paint a richer colour u can get the faux pillars and put them from your tub to ceiling, I would then have the wrapped with greenery as well and plants elsewhere it will cozy it up and feel tropical. Another idea is a water fall for your wall above the tub u can get them at a good price. If you want it cozy I would use a earth tone but if your thinking fresh and colorful use a aqua blue. Luxurious: stain the cabinets darker, paint walls sand/tan. Shiny handles. One bright color or only spa-line earth tones.

Beachy: paint either the walls or the cabinets white, add fun knobs and some bright colors (aqua, lime, orange). Or orange cabinets and soft sandy beige walls, white tub surround?

Definitely add some plants for an instant tropical feeling. I think you could create an accent wall between the doors with some texture, or maybe a plant wall - Another option is to display artwork of tropical beaches, palm trees - you could do a large canvas print between the doors, or a wall mural. Canvas would hold up well in a humid bathroom environment.

Add a wallpaper with a tropical theme. Change out the doors so you can paper them as well. This will eliminate the look of a 'wall of doors'. Hang a tropical print between the doors, use colored glass door and drawer pulls for sparkle, and add some seaside accessories. Be careful not to over do!

As MarleneM suggested, making the space above the tub between the doors functional, as well as tropical would be a good idea. For budget considerations, you could use apple crates or wooden boxes -- paint them tropical colors (white, sand, aquamarine, azure blue), then use them for colorful towels, nick knacks, lotions, bath salts, candles and prints of tropical scenes. Or purchase shelves and do the same thing. Lots of options!

Or use baskets the same way. You can paint baskets too!
