Outdoor Fireplace

There are a lot of pictures and designs for outdoor fireplaces. I was curious if anyone has come across plans on how to construct a freestanding fireplace using cinder blocks? There are prefab kits available however not in my neck of the woods and shipping would be very expensive! Cinder block seems to be the logical choice, and I'm happy to do it myself if I had some plans as a starting point.

I just saw a that on a DIY channel show. They built the fireplace out of cinderblocks and then covered the outside with stone or brick veneer. I do not have any more details, but I think it would be easy to google and find examples. You could have a place to burn logs or have a gas supply, or some of those newer types that do not even need to be outside.

We build these often and the design is really up to you. Most of the design plans you are probably finding are made of a base from cinder block applying stucco or stone over the top as a finish. Be sure the interior of your fireplace is made with fire brick or clay bricks as the cinder block cant withstand the high temperatures.
