hi, wondering if you could give further info on the "roof mounted remote blower" fan... I am building a new home and our builder doesn't think we can vent out with an overhead fan given where the duct work has to travel- but didn't know if this type of fan doesn't have to be ducted like normal fans? Any advice or info you could provide on this hood fan would be great. Thanks, this is so pretty!

The "remote" blower is available as a wall mount or a roof mount. It does not change any ducting requirements it just allows for the noise of the blower to be significantly reduced since it is outside and not in your kitchen. You definitely need to design your house to provide a chase for the range hood. You may also be required to provide "make-up" air to your home through an outside air exchange system.

Hi there, we are about to do something similar based on this and I wondered about the antique wood, is it important to have the wood outside the perimeter of the stove top? Did you treat it with anything to improve its infalammability?
    many thanks!

Here is more info for all of the comments: The remote blower is available as a wall mount or a roof mount. The manufacturer provides detailed drawings for how the venting can work. You can use 90 and 45 and 22-1/2 degree elbows to go around any obstacles that may exist in your building. There is a maximum amount of total feet allowed for your particular blower. When you use a 90 degree pipe vent it may count as 5' of pipe. I suggest you download an installation drawing from the manufacturers web site to determine the best method to vent your fan. Regarding the wood frame question and its "flammability": An oven hood is intended to exhaust air not put out a fire. Most kitchens with custom fans are built into a WOOD frame. The distance from the cooking surface and the hood are generally detailed by the range manufacturer. Most require about 30" minimum from the range top so that the device works properly. Hopes this helps everyone.

Broan and Zephyr make these hood inserts. There are a few options relative to overall size and blower cfm output. Yes the surround is custom made.

Did you stain the antique beam? If so, what did stain colors and finish did you use? Thanks! Love it!

We do not stain antique beams. Their natural color and distinct old markings are what make them look so good. Just a clear coat is all we do if necessary.

I did a reclaimed wood bar top and used this product to top coat and seal bringing out the natural colors as described by the Sullivan Group.

You have been very patient with all of the people who kept asking the same questions because they hadn't read previous answers.

Yes Joanne, I do wish people would read through the whole thread but I am not sure if the thread appears before they post a comment or question.

I'm pretty sure they think of a question while looking at the full article & just jump to the bottom & ask their question, if that is the case, they are savings themselves time at everyone else's expense. My comment probably won't do any good because they won"t read it. I just thought you were being amazingly patient.

Okay, I think I've read the whole thread but am unable to find a Broan or Zephyr insert with baffles that appear to be black like these. Is the picture misleading, or did you darken the stainless baffles of a Zephyr?

How did you hold it up? It is obviously attached to the wall, but how was that done so that it did not have to be supported from above?
