Exterior colour scheme help!

I need help! My husband and I are replacing windows, doors and adding gutters! The soffit is white and I feel obligated to choose white trim for windows and doors but I am not sold on it! Any opinions or comments would help! Should we do white, taupe, grey...... It's an expensive choice!! I do not want to replace the soffit just because it is white... Can I leave the soffit white and still incorporated another color??? The trim is currently a clay color
