You could paint the wood portion to match your walls. Be sure to prep well. If the fuchia and lavender are your accent colors, you might update the art to include just a touch of that tone. This seems to be such a small area, consider a chaise and making it into a reading corner.

Thank you for your comments. it is actually a large open concept room ( picture doesn't show much). Eventually we are refinishing the fireplace with marble tiles and inserting a gas fireplace but wanted to do something to freshen it up while we save up!.. would you paint the hearth too?

Corner fireplaces are a little tricky. Below is a picture of a fireplace that was very similar to your fireplace. We used our Mountain Stack stone and installed the stone without a mortar joint. The 45 degree corners were miter cut to provide a neat installation. We then used a spruce beam mantel that was slightly distressed and used a Shaker Maple color stain.

You might consider building the top wood part of the fireplace out so it is flush with the bottom section of the fireplace. Another idea instead of the mantel is add a TV.

How about using mosaic tiles?

Just as some different options, you could;
1-Paint the wood & hearth in a light silver toned gray & leave the bricks white.
2-Or Paint the wood white, the bricks in the silver-gray tone, and the hearth in a charcoal color.

Definitely put up some new art using your accent colors. An abstract or close up of a flower like lavender would be nice. The size of your current art is a good size for the space.

Have you thought about an area rug? Maybe a large round rug would work in the middle of everything.
