Choosing wall to wall carpet color for large open loft area

We are building a new home and have a large open loft area we will be using as a family room. The wall color I have chosen for the upstairs and downstairs is Olympic paint color slate pebble D32-3. We also have 2 bedrooms and a large game room off the loft and would like to carry the carpet throughout and down the stairs to the living room that has Glossy cherry laminate. I am having a hard time deciding on a style of carpet and color. Ceilings and trim will be white. Any ideas?

Berber carpet wears well and looks good. With the lovely paint colour you have chosen you could go several ways with your carpet colour, eg, slate blue, sage green, oatmeal...just about any organic type colour you love.

We have berber carpet in our family room..........19 years after we moved in. It is sturdy, but yes, seems to be harder to clean. But, it's a light color and if it had been up to me, I would have chosen something darker.

just make sure that whatever carpet you get, you do a heavy weight carpet.
take a sample, and fold it like the edge of a stair. (not quite a 90deg. kind of rounded off)

if you see the canvas, get a higher weight, that won't wear well.

Thank you for your inputs. Good idea on folding the edge over the stairs. I hadn't thought of that. My husband tends to like darker colors or deep reds, etc. He is red and green color blind so my going neutrals is hard for him to see any real color change.
Like the color ideas of slate blues or greens.... out of my comfort zone but I do love it when I see other pictures where they have used color. I will go shopping now with new ideas.Thanks so much!
